Solly Moeng


Solly Moeng is a media and communications specialist with three decades experience working across the corporate, public and non-profit sectors in his home country of South Africa and abroad. He is a passionate advocate for better understanding and strengthening the reputation and brand of South Africa and the continent more broadly.


In addition to his brand management consultancy, DonValley, Solly is the founder of the Africa Brand Summit, a leading platform for monitoring and addressing the perceptions and narratives about Africa and their impact on the continent’s growth.  He is a regular columnist for News24, part of Media24, South Africa's leading media company, and is the host of WorldView, a podcast focused on South Africa with South African political, business, media and cultural figures as guests. 


His career includes two stints with South African Tourism, first as Marketing Manager in Canada then as Country Manager in the United States where he oversaw the launch of South Africa’s Tourism Growth Strategy in the USA & Canada. He was Head of Corporate Communications & PR at Woolworths, South Africa’s high-end retailer and prior to that, Marketing & Communications Manager at the South African National Biodiversity Institute, and at the Cape Nature Conservation Board where he oversaw its rebranding to the current CapeNature.


Solly also served as Corporate Affairs Head at the Central Energy Fund (CEF) and was later appointed as a special media advisor to the CEO of the Strategic Fuels Fund, a subsidiary of the CEF. In addition, he worked in France as Business Development & Marketing Manager at Mesure, a South African facilities management subsidiary of French multinational Bouygues Construction. 


He is a part time lecturer at the EU Business School and has appeared as a guest lecturer at the Paris-based Ecole des Hautes Études Internationales & Politiques.  In addition to The Africa Narrative, he is a Trustee of the Chrysalis Academy, a Western Cape Provincial Government led youth development academy.  Among other board-level roles, Solly has served as Vice President of the Davos, Switzerland based World Communication Forum Association, President of the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa (PRISA), and President of the French South Africa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Cape Town).


Solly received his BA in French linguistics from Witwatersrand University and Master’s in French Pedagogy from Université de Franche-Comté.
